Maletsunyane Falls are one of the most famous places in Lesotho and can be reached through a picturesque hike from Semonkong, a town about two hours away from the capital, Maseru.

The itinerary starts from the characteristic Semonkong Lodge, which we also use as a base for the night.
The path is almost predominantly flat and takes place on a pristine and bare windswept plateau. The only companions on the journey are the Basotho shepherds, dressed in the typical manner with colorful wool blankets and characteristic headgear, and their flocks. Depending on the amount of rain that has fallen recently it is possible to find marshy ground. There is no real path to follow and the trail may not always be very obvious. After about an hour's walk we pass through a village with its characteristic circular houses with thatched roofs. After passing the village we come across a small metal construction on the left where you are asked to pay a fee to continue towards the waterfalls (payment of around 80 Maloti in cash only). The imposing canyon in which the waterfall is located is already starting to be visible in front of us. We walk along its edge for a short distance until the spectacular Maletsunyane Falls, the highest single-drop waterfall on the African continent. begins to appear on our left.

After a panoramic stop, the return takes place along the same itinerary followed on the outward journey.
